CESENA - SAMPDORIA | MISTER MIGNANI'S POST-GAME CONFERENCE
At the end of the match against U.C. Sampdoria, Mister Michele Mignani reached the press room of Orogel Stadium—Dino Manuzzi—to comment with the journalists present on the home defeat.
"I want to be intellectually honest with myself and with you: what the match leaves me with right now, without having watched it again, is having seen a team that plays and proposes and yet concedes goals too easily, just as had happened in Pisa. Today, in my opinion, we created, did well, moved the ball well, and were dangerous in many situations, but then we took goals so easily, both on a moving ball and on a stationary ball. For now the game left me with this, but if I stop with rationality I see things done well, however it becomes hard to stay inside a league like this when every game you concede similar goals. I want to analyze everything calmly in the coming days, but we must be more ardent."
"Did I change the formation? It is incorrect to call tonight's choices an emergency because tonight's was a very similar team to the one I have proposed other times, but Francesconi was in place of Kargbo. Kargbo did not give us a guarantee of ninety minutes, and I thought of playing a player who had physicality. Francesconi played his game as then, in my opinion, all the others did. It becomes paradoxical to tell something other than that Sampdoria today scored five goals at home to Cesena, although there is a list of events and situations that could have turned the game around. I say this as a fact, because then the final result is that and there are no alibis, however at 2-2 we took the crossbar with Ciofi and we had tied the game if the goal had not been cancelled, rightly, for Shpendi's offside. Before that there was Berti's chance, it's clear that these are just words and they don't count because points count and actions count."
"Five goals tonight is a lot, just like three goals in Pisa is a lot; we often took two. I wouldn't say I like that because the games all have to go even. The defensive phase needs to be done better because attacking does not mean exposing ourselves to the opponent's counterattack; we must grow and do both phases well. Lately, we, the defensive ones, have been doing it less well because, beyond the goals taken, we conceded two fairly clean chances, so many things must be looked at and worked on. I am convinced that things are always done well within a game, but it matters to score points, and in the end, we need to score."
